The Solar iBoost allows any excess power that would have been exported to the grid to be diverted into your immersion heater to heat up your hot water.
This is home automation at its simplest. If you have a PV array which is capable of producing more power than you can use, then you need one of these. The main controller sits between the immersion heater element and the switch that usually controls it. The wireless sensor is clamped around the live cable from your meter/consumer unit and it measures how much power you are exporting. This information is sent to the controller, which will proportionally increase the amount of power that is fed into your immersion heater. The net result is that you will use all the power you produce as long as you have water that requires heating.
If you turn on an appliance, for example the kettle, the Solar iBoost will shut down and will remain in standby until you are exporting again.
